Conference Leader Day, Sunday, October 28, by

Haley Scribner, ACL

What is your favorite part of an Area Conference?

Mine is connecting with other Leaders!

I am really looking forward to all of the amazing speakers we have lined up for the conference, but I’m even more excited to see all of the incredible Leaders who will be traveling through New York to attend.

Attending a conference for continuing education is very important, but it can be just as valuable to connect with other Leaders and see how they are doing within their Groups and get feedback and ideas to bring back to your Group. I find that I always leave a conference feeling rejuvenated and excited to try something new.

I plan on being available all day on Sunday to talk about any and everything you want to cover. I plan on attending sessions, but if you want to talk through Group dynamics, ideas you have for the Area, or any other general thoughts and feelings, I’ll be available! I think that it is so important to hear from every single New York Leader. My “door” is always open!

Funding for the Conference by Aimée Readhead AFC

The Conference is just around the corner. Have you considered taking on a conference helping job with the conference or Area Council position as a way to save some money on the ticket? Ask Heather or Haley how you can help!

Have you considered promoting memberships and the idea of making a donation at your next meeting? Let the Group know that memberships are a wonderful way to commit to and support the Group and that donations of any amount are gratefully received. All funds received this way could be used to subsidize your conference experience.

Do you really want to attend the conference and still need some financial help? Have you considered whether you are eligible for a scholarship or support from the Area? Please contact Heather, Haley, or me. Please feel free to contact me if I can help in any way.

Seeking Conference Donations
by Helen McCullagh
Conference Donations Coordinator

The 2018 LLL NY Area Conference, Breastfeeding in the Millennium, is just four weeks away. Have you registered yet? Many Leaders are planning on attending, and I hope you are sharing the information with your Group attendees and members and encouraging them to participate. It will be a great event and a chance for Leaders, members, families, and health care professionals to make new connections and learn further information.

Area Conferences are opportunities for fundraising also. We are soliciting donations for a Tricky Tray fundraiser. Items may be grouped in a theme or by themselves.

No baskets are necessary.

  • Items can be humorous, thoughtful, pleasing, practical, functional, lovely, silly, fun, or reflective.

  • Individual items are welcome. We can create a group of like-themed donations.

  • Items for contribution can be brought to the Area Conference or sent ahead of time to Helen McCullagh, 72 Hyatt Avenue, Yonkers, NY 10704.

Want to contribute and not sure what is appropriate? Contact Helen at 914-237-1595 or mccocchiara@mindspring.com.

Leader and Group Dues

Thank you to those who have paid their Leader and Group dues for 2018. There are still a handful of Leaders who need to complete this task. Please chat with your co-Leaders and see if they have paid their dues. Regularly talking to co-Leaders is a great way to make sure everyone’s contact information is up to date and ensure that everyone is properly entered in the LLLI database.

If you or a co-Leader plans to retire, please let Haley or me know as soon as possible. By having our Leader List as up to date as possible before the end of the year, Alliance is able to take an accurate headcount of active Leaders and the Area need only pay dues for those Leaders who plan to continue leading in 2019.

Reducing Conference Costs by Heather Gansky, ACE

Six Ways to reduce conference expenses.

  1. Register with a Leader Applicant. You and the Applicant can email lllnyace@gmail.com for a $10.00 off discount code for each of you.
  2. Encourage a parent to register with you. You can email lllnyace@gmail.com for a $10.00 off discount code.
  3. Donate a basket or item for the tricky tray or silent auction. Your Group will receive ten free raffle tickets either Friday evening or Saturday morning when you check in at the registration table.
  4. Consider carpooling with others.
  5. Consider reaching out to see if there are jobs to do to help with the conference. You will get a $10.00 discount code for helping out.
  6. Consider rooming with a co-Leader, parent from your Group, or another Leader. Leaders traveling alone could fit three Leaders in one room that has two beds and a pull-out couch.
